The Statue of Equality is the third-largest statue in India and the second-tallest sitting statue in the world. This is the sculpture of the 11th-century Indian philosopher Ramanuja and was made as a tribute to his 1000th birth anniversary.

In this article, we’ll explain everything there is to know about the Statue of Equality tickets, timings, entry fee, how to reach and the importance of this incredible statue.

Statue of Equality Overview

Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja was an Indian Hindu philosopher and a social reformer. He was born into a Tamil Brahmin community and lived for about 120 years.

The Statue of Equality is a towering symbol of devotion and universal harmony.

Ramanuja’s idea of equality and spirituality goes a long way in India. To honor this idea and take it to another level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue on 5 February 2022.

This 216-foot-tall statue took about 15 months to complete the installation between 2017 and 2018. For many, the statue is not just a physical structure but an epitome of equality and brotherhood, and whoever visits it experiences the same spiritual essence regardless of their caste, culture, ethnicity, and background.

Statue of Equality: The Architectural Marvel

The Statue of Equality was conceived by the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), epitomizing architecture and spirituality.

This modern marvel weighs around 700 tonnes and is about 216 feet (66 meters) tall, making it the tallest sitting statue in the world.

The foundation stone of the statue was laid by Chinna Jeeyar and was built with 700 tonnes of panchaloha, which is a Sanskrit name for the combination of 5 metals that are gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc.

The base building is called Bhadravedi which is 54 feet tall. On top of that lies a lotus, which is 27 feet in diameter and is carried by 36 magnificent elephants, over which the breathtaking statue of equality sits.

Not only that but the base building is a meditation hall that has a 54-inch tall statue of Ramanuja made out of 120 kg of gold, which signifies the golden years he lived. Everything about this statue holds significance and meaning, which is why it has become a major tourist attraction in Hyderabad alongside rich cultural heritages like Charminar and Birla Mandir

The statue is very thoughtfully designed to increase accessibility for visitors of all abilities. Rams, pathways, and other features are also built to make the monuments more welcoming to a diverse audience.

Like every other monument in India, at night you can witness the statue illuminated with tricolor and a fountain show to enhance the visibility and beauty of this modern marvel.
