Anna Tower Park was built in 1968 by B. S. Abdur Rahman and was inaugurated by former Vice President V. V. Giri. The park, along with the tower, is maintained by the Chennai Corporation. 

It was closed in 2011 due to undisclosed incidents, but the sources says due to repeated incidents of suicides, structural damage and public nuisance. Later, in 2023, it was reopened under the Greater Chennai Corporation with upgraded facilities and safety grills on all 12 floors.
