It is dedicated to Lord Adinath (Rishabhanatha), the first Tirthankara of Jainism, and the main spot is the Chaturmukha temple, which is considered one of the largest Jain temples and one of the holiest Jain shrines in India. The other temples are the Surya, the Suparshavanatha, the Nemitha, and the Amba temples.

This site started being built approx. 600 years ago and took 50 years to complete, and it is estimated that the amount spent was 99 lakh rupees.

Ranakpur Jain Temple History

A local Jain businessperson, Seth Dharna Shah, started the construction of the temple in the 15th century. This religious place is dedicated to Tirthankar Rishabhnatha, who was the first Tirthankar of Jainism. He also founded the Ikshvaku Dynasty.

Architecture of the Ranakpur Temple

The temple is famous for its carvings and unique architectural structure. It is built in the Maru-Gujara architectural style. White marble is used in this pilgrimage site with copper-plate inscriptions. 

It has a Garbhagriha in which the main idol is placed. A rangamandapa (the dancing hall) is connected to the two-story mandapa, called Balana and Nalimandapa.
